She experienced first-hand how the system works against the innocent when she began her legal career as a public defender in Los Angeles. She then served as the Clinic Director for the Indigent Criminal Defense Clinic at Emory Law School.
Her passion for innocence work was fully ignited while serving as an amicus attorney for Troy Davis, a Georgia death row inmate who was ultimately executed, despite compelling evidence of his innocence. This frustration led Deirdre to found Innocence Matters in 2010. This is a pro bono organization which is dedicated to helping those who have been wrongfully convicted by filing Section 1983 civil rights lawsuits.
Building on this experience, she finally decided to open Seamus Law in 2016, to fully focus on defending the rights of the innocent. After successfully securing several exonerations and preventing many other falsely accused clients from joining the ranks of the wrongfully convicted, Deirdre expanded her practice to vindicate her clients’ innocence.
